Tallow Balm Care & Safety
- Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before using a new tallow skincare product. Apply a small amount to a discreet area of skin and wait 24 hours to check for any adverse reactions.
- Application: Use tallow products as directed on the packaging. Generally, apply a thin layer to clean, dry skin. Gently massage until fully absorbed. Avoid applying tallow products on broken or irritated skin.
- Storage: Store tallow skincare products in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Some tallow products may benefit from refrigeration, especially in warmer climates.
-
Heat Exposure: Whipped tallow balms can change in texture if exposed to heat. Please be aware of this when ordering in the summer or in warm regions. The product is not damaged from the heat (tallow is a very stable fat), but since the whipping process adds air to the balm, melting will cause the product to flatten out and be a thicker texture.
If this occurs, we recommend placing the jar in the fridge for a couple of hours, and then re-whipping with a hand mixer to add back air into the product.
- Hygiene: Ensure your hands are clean before applying tallow skincare products to avoid contaminating the product.\
- Compatibility: Tallow can be used in combination with other skincare products. However, monitor how your skin reacts to the combination of products to ensure no adverse effects occur.
- Frequency of Use: Follow the recommended usage instructions. Most tallow skincare products are suitable for daily use, but individual needs may vary.
- Shelf Life: Check the expiration date on the product packaging. Discard any products that have changed color, texture, or smell, as these may indicate spoilage.
- Allergic Reactions: If you experience redness, itching, swelling, or other signs of an allergic reaction, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. If you have a known sensitivity to animal fats or similar ingredients, avoid using tallow skincare products.
- Proper Usage: Do not use tallow products on open wounds or severely irritated skin. Avoid contact with the eyes. If the product gets into your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water and seek medical advice if irritation persists.
- Consultation: If you have specific skin conditions or concerns (such as eczema or psoriasis), consult a dermatologist before incorporating tallow skincare products into your routine. Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals should consult with a healthcare provider before using new skincare products, including those containing tallow.
- Ethical and Environmental Considerations: Ensure that the tallow products you choose are sourced from reputable companies that adhere to ethical practices regarding animal welfare and environmental impact. Look for products made from tallow derived from grass-fed or ethically-raised animals.
- Interactions with Other Products: Be mindful of potential interactions between tallow products and other skincare ingredients. If using tallow in conjunction with other active ingredients, monitor for any signs of irritation or reaction.
- Storage Safety: Keep tallow skincare products out of reach of children and pets. Do not use products that show signs of spoilage, such as an unusual odor or separation.
- Travel and Portability: When traveling, ensure that tallow skincare products are securely sealed to prevent leaks or spills. Consider using travel-sized containers if necessary.
